Promoting Active and Sensory Play: From Unused and Uninspired to Fostering Creativity and Imagination
Client
St John’s C.E. Infants & Junior School
Location
Wakefield, West Yorkshire
Project
Bespoke EYFS Sensory Playground
Overview
St John’s School wanted to completely transform its Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) outdoor area to make better use of the available space. The brief was to create a varied and engaging area where children could learn through different types of play. We introduced sensory water, sand, and constructions areas, various climbing opportunities, and a tranquil reading area, as well as numerous planters and a new pedestrian entrance. The result is a completely reimagined EYFS environment that makes full use of the outdoor area, giving children space to explore, create, build, move, and enjoy quieter moments.
“We are thrilled with the outcome; it looks amazing. Thank you!”
Anna Hoile, School Business Manager, St John’s School
