Bespoke Robinia Single Oak Tower
Overview
Corner House Nursery in Falkirk, part of the Thrive Childcare & Education group, sought to enhance their outdoor provision with a focal point that balanced natural aesthetics with high-value developmental play. Their vision was to move away from plastic-heavy equipment and embrace a sustainable, tactile structure that would challenge their toddlers’ physical coordination while sparking their imaginations. We delivered a bespoke Robinia Single Oak Tower – a premium, organic centrepiece designed to grow alongside the children who use it.
We worked in close partnership with the nursery to ensure the tower provided a multi-sensory experience for early years learners. By utilising the organic, “wonky” shapes of natural Robinia timber, we created a structure that feels like a part of the forest. The final design features:
A stunning, handcrafted centrepiece that serves as a hub for imaginative role-play and social interaction.
We preserved the natural grain of the Robinia wood to support sensory exploration and fine motor development.
Low-level access points and sturdy handholds designed to build balance and physical confidence in a safe, age-appropriate environment.
Every element was sustainably sourced and handcrafted to withstand the heavy usage of a busy nursery setting and the unpredictable Scottish weather.
By choosing premium Robinia hardwood—renowned for its natural resistance to decay and splintering—we provided a structure that is as safe as it is durable. Every element was handcrafted and finished to a high specification, ensuring a “climate-proof” asset that offers a soft, natural aesthetic while maintaining the structural integrity required for a high-traffic commercial childcare environment.

The new Robinia tower has quickly become the “star attraction” of the Corner House outdoor space. Unlike standard modular units, the Oak Tower encourages children to think creatively – one day it’s a castle, the next a lookout post – fostering storytelling and teamwork from a young age.
Our installation approach prioritised longevity and integration. By choosing Robinia – one of Europe’s most durable hardwoods—the nursery has invested in a permanent feature that requires minimal maintenance and ages beautifully over time. It provides a high-value learning environment where children can take managed risks, build core strength, and connect with natural materials every single day.
“We wanted a playground that reflected our commitment to high-quality early years education. The Robinia Tower is not only beautiful to look at but has become an essential tool for our students’ physical development. The craftsmanship is truly world-class.”
This project highlights our expertise in delivering thoughtful, durable, and engaging outdoor spaces for the early years sector. Whether we are installing a Robinia tower in Falkirk or a bespoke adventure trail in a primary school, we pride ourselves on turning creative visions into safe, sustainable, and long-lasting realities. We understand that for providers like Thrive Childcare, quality and safety are non-negotiable—and we deliver both with every grain of timber.
