Bespoke Outdoor Gym Installation with Waney Edge Fencing
Overview
Low Moor C.E. Primary School in Bradford recognised that physical literacy extends far beyond traditional competitive sports. They sought to revitalise an underused section of their grounds by introducing a dedicated outdoor gym area that would transform “letting off steam” into structured, high-value fitness sessions. We designed a compact, high-performance gym zone that targets cardiovascular health and muscular strength, all wrapped in a natural aesthetic that sits perfectly within the school’s landscaped environment.
We selected a range of equipment that mimics adult gym movements but is specifically engineered for the proportions and safety requirements of primary-age children. The goal was to provide a full-body workout that feels like play. Key features include:
A dynamic station focusing on leg strength and rhythmic coordination, providing a low-impact cardiovascular workout.
A full-body powerhouse that engages both upper and lower muscle groups simultaneously, improving core stability and endurance.
A dedicated station for building arm and shoulder strength, helping children develop the motor skills and grip necessary for classroom tasks.
Premium, shock-absorbing surfacing that ensures the gym area remains clean, mud-free, and safe for year-round use.
Hand-crafted perimeter fencing that provides a clear boundary for the gym zone while maintaining a rustic, organic look that complements the school's "green" philosophy.
By combining industrial-grade fitness mechanisms with our signature sustainably sourced timber fencing, we created a professional-standard fitness hub. Every piece of equipment is finished to withstand heavy daily use and the British weather, ensuring the school has a long-term, low-maintenance asset that promotes healthy lifestyles.

The project at Low Moor was about creating a dedicated “destination” for health. By zoning the gym with our signature Waney Edge fencing, we created a focused environment where children can concentrate on their movements away from the more chaotic areas of the main playground.
Our team managed the entire process, from initial groundworks to the final bolt, ensuring every station was anchored for maximum long-term safety. By installing high-drainage artificial grass as the base, we’ve ensured the gym is accessible even after a heavy Bradford downpour. The result is a professional-grade fitness hub that teaches children the value of an active lifestyle in an environment that is safe, inviting, and built to withstand the rigours of hundreds of daily users.
“Precision Timber have been integral to the re-development of our outdoor spaces. We have always been incredibly impressed with the craftsmanship, professional approach of the whole team, creative ‘can-do’ attitude, eye for detail, and relentless focus on the needs of the customer and the children.” — Low Moor C.E. Primary School
Every project we undertake is a shared chapter in a school’s evolution. We don’t just follow a generic blueprint; we listen to the “what-ifs” of a Headteacher and the specific goals of the school’s PE department. Schools trust us because we are as flexible as the timber we work with—ready to adapt on-site and innovate mid-build to ensure the final result matches the unique spirit of their setting. We take pride in being the craftsmen who turn a school’s vision into a physical sanctuary where children can thrive for decades.
